General Robotics: The intelligence grid for physical AI

Ashish Kapoor and Dinesh Narayanan founded General Robotics in 2023 to bring composable, modular AI skills to robots across any form, task, or environment.

GRID is an AI research and deployment company building infrastructure for physical AI. Modular skills replace monolithic models, letting robots of any form sense, reason, and act with the precision real-world deployment demands.

General Robotics, operating as GRID, builds the intelligence grid for physical AI: a deployment platform that brings composable, modular AI skills to robots of every form. The platform helps robots sense, reason, and act precisely across humanoids, robotic arms, quadrupeds, wheeled, and aerial systems.

GRID is hardware-agnostic by design, deploying across humanoids, arms, quadrupeds, wheeled, and aerial robots. The platform’s thesis is that general intelligence emerges from the rich composition of robot skills, not from larger monolithic models. Skills run on commercial cloud, on-prem, or at the edge.

The platform composes individual robot skills (perception, planning, control) into integrated behaviors that adapt across tasks and environments. Each skill is designed to be data-efficient, interpretable, and suited to safety-critical use, in contrast to the black-box behavior of monolithic foundation models. A single GRID instance handles 25,000+ concurrent robot requests, letting enterprises scale deployments without rebuilding the AI stack for each new form factor or operational context.
