Always Be Refining: For our LPs, Our Companies and Ourselves

Some say it takes five years and twenty million dollars to train a venture capitalist. This last quarter, I crossed that five-year mark. And while I’m not sure about that $20M number (my learning curve is still vertical when it comes to fund management, board responsibilities, and relationship management; perhaps it always will be…), one thing I’ve …

Summer Internship and Striking Gold

When I announced to friends that I would be spending my summer working for a venture capital firm, they seemed surprised. The role didn’t match the liberal thinking that I usually live by. But I was the first one to realize that I did not appreciate the full scope and breadth of venture capital activities. …

Patience Pays Dividends: Four Recent Success Stories

Neither venture investing nor startup is for the faint of heart. A lot of people think that’s because of the spectacular rises and falls we read about in the headlines (electric scooters! ICOs!), and there is a certain roller-coaster aspect to the squiggly line that is entrepreneurship. But the real test we’ve discovered is about patience. Phenomenal patience …

Jason Langheier

Michael is one of the most productively engaged investors I've ever had.

He evaluated Zipongo both on our mission and our business, and then rolled up his sleeves, working in our office for 2-3 days a week for a period of time, helping with everything from Sales to Product to Finance, when we most needed the help and wisdom. He loves startups and seeing them through their early proof points, and also able to dish important constructive feedback. He's efficient and diligent about his contributions, and, he's fun to work with. Bee Partners is building an impressive portfolio, and what I admire about Michael, is that he's helping the earliest stage entrepreneurs who have a passion for building something meaningful, get their idea off their ground. In starting a company, Michael would be one of the first people I speak with going forward, and I expect Bee Partners will soon be spoken in the same sentence with Founder Collective, SV Angels, True Partners and First Round Capital (probably with Bee as the first investor in for a lot of great newcos).

Michael was the first investor in TubeMogul... He took a risk on a team and a vision before anyone else was willing to do so.

We are glad he did as his contribution has been meaningful. In the early days he helped with our strategy, biz dev efforts and fundraising. Where he stands out from other investors is his persona: he's a consummate optimist and believer and inspires me every time we talk.

Bee Partners was our first investor, and they've always been a firm believer in the potential of Skycatch.

Michael's constructive feedback, strategic insight, and invaluable guidance were essential in helping us get our ideas off the ground, and grow our business. The entire firm truly embodies our core values (Humble, Nimble & Reliable); and, without our infinite late night calls, and the integral relationships he helped build, we wouldn't be where we are today. We're fortunate to have Michael's voice & vision within Skycatch.
