The Fallacy of Decreasing CAC

On the occasion of Blue Apron’s IPO and Ben Thompson’s discussion around CAC, (apologies for the paywall, but it’s worth it) we want to highlight the importance of understanding customer acquisition cost (CAC) both at any given time, and over time. Just as important as customer lifetime value (LTV), an accurate understanding of CAC provides …

The Case for Intelligent APIs

By Zach Thigpen, Garrett Goldberg, and Sahinaz Safari Imagine two different bars. They’re both in the same part of town, and they both have identical crowds, decor, and alcohol choices. One bar has a menu of drinks with each ingredient listed, so you order knowing full well every component that will go into it. At …

Our congratulations to grads – and our special love for Cal

It never gets old. Every year, I attend several college graduation events.  And yes, there’s a certain sameness to them – flip the tassel, “Pomp and Circumstance,” and mortarboards in the air, not necessarily in that order – but I swear they never get old. There’s really nothing like the convergence of those two powerful …

Jason Langheier

Michael is one of the most productively engaged investors I've ever had.

He evaluated Zipongo both on our mission and our business, and then rolled up his sleeves, working in our office for 2-3 days a week for a period of time, helping with everything from Sales to Product to Finance, when we most needed the help and wisdom. He loves startups and seeing them through their early proof points, and also able to dish important constructive feedback. He's efficient and diligent about his contributions, and, he's fun to work with. Bee Partners is building an impressive portfolio, and what I admire about Michael, is that he's helping the earliest stage entrepreneurs who have a passion for building something meaningful, get their idea off their ground. In starting a company, Michael would be one of the first people I speak with going forward, and I expect Bee Partners will soon be spoken in the same sentence with Founder Collective, SV Angels, True Partners and First Round Capital (probably with Bee as the first investor in for a lot of great newcos).

Bee Partners was our first investor, and they've always been a firm believer in the potential of Skycatch.

Michael's constructive feedback, strategic insight, and invaluable guidance were essential in helping us get our ideas off the ground, and grow our business. The entire firm truly embodies our core values (Humble, Nimble & Reliable); and, without our infinite late night calls, and the integral relationships he helped build, we wouldn't be where we are today. We're fortunate to have Michael's voice & vision within Skycatch.

Bee Partners has been a crucial player in helping build our company from the beginning.

Michael and Garrett have an unusual skill set combination, very helpful at the pre-seed stage, and have a great network to help early companies grow.

Michael is an investor in Earbits through his firm Bee Partners. Aside from being a super friendly, down to earth guy, he constantly tries to add value in any way he can and is full of spot-on advice.

He's the type of investor that you can as readily share troubling information with as good, and expect to receive the same, level headed and thoughtful approach to helping you move the ball forward. Michael once emailed me out of the blue and said he felt he wasn't doing enough to support us, and offered up a list of things he could do for us. I told him I needed some advice on a matter and he said we needed some analysis on it before we could really know what the right thing to do was. He then proceeded, over the next day or two, to do the majority of that analysis for us and provide the documentation we needed to have visibility to make the right decision. Every entrepreneur wants investors who will go the extra mile for them, which is why I highly recommend that any entrepreneur who has the opportunity join forces with Berolzheimer and Bee Partners.
